This Is Not a Government Office or Records Custodian. San Luis Obispo Residents Directory is a private reference. It cannot pull records, certify copies, confirm who lives at an address, or change a roll. For an emergency, call 911. If someone is stalking or harassing you, contact local police.

Where to Request a Record

The fastest route depends on the record. Use the San Luis Obispo street directory for address-keyed sources, the directory book for historical collections, and the resident lookup page for a one-person record trail. For records not already online, contact the custodian rather than sending the request to this reference.

  • San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder: 1055 Monterey Street, Suite D120, San Luis Obispo, California; 805-781-5080. Hours are 8 to 5 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 8 to 4 Wednesday. Transactions end 30 minutes before closing.
  • San Luis Obispo City Clerk: 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo; 805-781-7114; cityclerk@slocity.org. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 to 5 for municipal records routes.
  • Superior Court: use the San Luis Obispo court's online-services and case-information request instructions for court files, public kiosks, copies, and certification.
  • Library and History Center: contact the San Luis Obispo Library for local-history materials and the History Center at 696 Monterey Street, 805-543-0638, before an onsite research visit because much of its collection is stored off site.
  • Records requests: describe an existing record, date range, location, preferred format, and any known number. The California Public Records Act is Government Code sections 7920.000 and following.

Questions about this private reference can be sent through the contact channel supplied by the publisher. Requests for a deed, certificate, court file, voter data, permit, or correction must go to the office that holds that record.
